One of Sequoia’s customers have made us aware of the Florence Agreement from 1950, which facilitates duty-free import of scientific instrumentation. It was designed to promote the exchange of scientific and educational materials by eliminating tariffs on such imports, provided there are no in-country manufacturer of equivalent instrumentation: https://www.unesco.org/en/legal-affairs/agreement-importation-educational-scientific-and-cultural-materials-annexes-e-and-protocol-annexed – Article I.1.(b) and Annex D.
We would encourage all international customers and distributors to reach out to their local freight forwarder or customs broker. They will be able to confirm if the provisions of the Florence Agreement apply to your country, and if they indeed take priority over any later tariffs, ensuring that you can continue to import instruments from Sequoia (and other US companies) without additional duties.
