Following successful PiE conferences at Bologna (Italy), Ville Franche (France), Barcelona (Spain), Esbjerg (Denmark), and Budapest (Hungary), the 6th conference will be held in Lisbon, Portugal. Ana Santos of Instituto Hidrografico, Marinha in Lisbon will be the local host. Conference co-chairs will be Yogi Agrawal and Wayne Slade of Sequoia Scientific, and Ana Santos and Anabela Oliveira of Instituto Hidrografico, Lisbon.
What is PiE 2018?
Particle in Europe, or PiE, is a bi-annual conference on the measurement, monitoring, impact, and managing of in situ particle size and concentration in the aquatic environment. The meeting is sponsored by Sequoia Scientific, Inc. of USA and the Instituto Hidrografico Marinha of Lisbon, Portugal. Specialists from many fields but with a common interest in particles in water attend in an intimate, informal environment and exchange ideas on phenomena, dynamics, and technologies.
Who should attend?
PiE brings together some of the world’s experts in studies on particles in water. The presentations cover dynamics, measurement, monitoring, and impact of particles in oceans, ports, coasts, rivers, lakes, streams, and sedimentation in reservoirs. Researchers, students, environmental officials, and monitoring agencies should attend the meeting. Broadly, examples of topics of interest are:
- Marine and hydrological sediment transport
- River and Reservoir Sedimentation
- Biological studies
- Sediments in Dredging
- Particle Measurement technologies
- Optics/Acoustics and remote sensing of Particles and Flocs.
