Particles in Europe (PiE) is a bi-annual conference focusing on particles (e.g., sediment, plankton, tripton, detritus,…) in the aquatic environment, organized by Sequoia Scientific, Inc. (USA) and a local organizer in Europe. Everybody interested and/or actively engaged in measuring, monitoring, modeling or managing particles in oceans, rivers, lakes, stormwater, streams and ice: Researchers, students, environmental officials, government employees, monitoring agencies etc. should attend the meeting.
Following the three very successful PiE conferences in Bologna (2008), Villefranche-sur-mer (2010) and Barcelona (2012), the organizing committee is pleased to announce the dates and location for the 4th piece of PiE: 7-9 October 2014 (Tue-Thu) in Esbjerg, SW Denmark, with an icebreaker Monday evening 6th October. For this 4th piece of PiE, Sequoia is teaming up with University of Copenhagen (http://ign.ku.dk/english/) and the MacArtney Underwater Technology Group (http://www.macartney.com/) as co-organizers. Esbjerg, the host city for PiE 2014 is MacArtney’s hometown as well as the gateway to the Wadden Sea National Park. The conference venue is Esbjerg Conference Hotel, about three km from the city centre.
The conference fee will be approximately 200 Euros and includes icebreaker Monday evening, buffet lunches, morning and afternoon coffee breaks during the conference, unlimited coffee and tea through the conference, conference dinner, bus tour of the Wadden Sea National Park (guided by co-organizers professor Morten Pejrup and Thorbjørn Andersen of University of Copenhagen), and a tour of MacArtney.

Anybody who would like to give a talk at the conference should submit an extended abstract of maximum six A4 sized pages plus figures, tables and references in Word format to Ole Mikkelsen (oam@macartney.com) no later than Friday 27th June 2014. For the extended abstract the settings should be as follows: margins must be 1″ (25 mm) on all four sides, font must be Times New Roman 12 pt, line spacing must be 1.5 lines throughout, spacing after paragraphs must be 10 pt, abstract title must be centered, 18 pt and bold, author names and author affiliations (in 10 pt) must be centered below the abstract title, text body must be left and right justified. Abstract notifications will be sent out no later than Friday 4th July.
Deadline for registration and payment of the conference fee is Friday 19th September 2014.
