We were saddened to learn that André Schallier passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2026. André founded ASICON, one of Sequoia’s very first distributors in Europe. Beginning in the late 1990s, ASICON represented Sequoia in the Benelux region and France. Active, well-known, and highly respected, André was an important presence in the oceanology and hydrography community across the region. Sequoia’s partnership with André and ASICON continued until his retirement more than a decade ago, when ASICON became part of Astron nv, which continued to represent Sequoia. In 2005, André and ASICON organized one of the first LISST user workshops held outside the United States, in Ostend. The photograph shows André (on the right) in conversation with Sequoia’s co-founder Dr. Yogi Agrawal at that workshop.
André planted a small Sequoia seedling in front of his house on the North Sea coast of Belgium. Over the years he sent pictures of himself and grandkids and the Sequoia to us.
