Join us tomorrow, September 9, 2020 at 3PM (Bogota) for Particle in the America’s first Webinar of 2020! Dr. Marcelo H Garcia (M.T. Geoffrey Yeh Chair in Civil Engineering, Professor & Director, Ven Te Chow Hydrosystems Laboratory, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign): A sediment particle’s journey from the Andes mountains to the Atlantic ocean via the Bermejo-Paraguay-Parana River Waterway: from debris flows to river meandering, turbidity currents and washload! Tune in here!

PiA Conferences are bi-annual events that bring together scientists and engineers working with sediments in Latin America. PiA conferences integrate research and monitoring in the South American continent. Many scientific research needs in the region are ovelapping. The PiA Conferences are gatherings of specialists with emphasis on a common language that further encourages participation of people from North America and Europe. These intimate assemblies are designed to promote partnerships and awareness of each other’s issues, expertise, tools, and experiences.

While we wait for COVID to pass so that we may meet in person at a PiA Conference, PiA is offering webinars. PiA’s monthly webinars will continue scientific interactions between researchers, monitoring agencies, and industry concerned with particles in water. Scientists selected by PiA Steering Committee will be invited to present their work to a broad audience of students, University faculty, engineers in industry, and scientists in government. The PiA Steering Committee will announce resumption of physical conferences when COVID is no longer an issue.
