AGU2019 Fall Meeting Recap

December 18, 2019

Sequoia Scientific, Inc. greatly enjoyed traveling down to San Francisco to attend the American Geophysical Union’s Centennial meetup. AGU’s Fall Meeting is the largest international Earth and space science meeting in the world, bringing in around 28,000 attendees and more than 200 exhibitors. Scientists, innovators, and advocates from around the world joined together to discuss cutting-edge research and findings, while working together towards the goal of “challenging perspectives in developing solutions for the sustainability of the planet.”

This year, AGU brought an increase in the amount of live streaming of content for those unable to attend, or wishing to reduce their carbon footprint. For those unable to attend or stream live, AGU has created an amazing library of this year’s presentations. Browse the following topics below!

Perhaps the most popular exhibitor, NASA Lights the Way! NASA Science experts greeted booth visitors and showcased a variety of hands-on, interactive science and data demos. Additionally, NASA presented findings from the Parker Solar Probe mission, the impact of a warming climate on glaciers around the world, and new discoveries at Jupiter by the Juno mission. The NASA Hyperwall, a video wall capable of displaying multiple data visualizations and images simultaneously across an arrangement of screens, was used throughout the day for presentations.

One particular talk that drew a crowd hosted Michael Bloomberg and Former Governor Jerry Brown in a discussion of America’s Pledge. Launched by Bloomberg and Brown in 2017, America’s Pledge brings together private and public sector leaders to ensure the United States remains a global leader in reducing emissions and delivers the country’s ambitious climate goals of the Paris Agreement. Dr. Yogesh C. Agrawal and Dr. Ole Aarup Mikkelsen presented three papers written by  Sequoia Scientists:
