Announcing the 3rd Particles in Europe (PiE) conference in Spain! |
| What is PiE? |
PiE is a bi-annualconference on the measurement, monitoring, and managing of in situ particle size and sediment concentration in the aquatic environment. The meeting is organized by Sequoia and a local organizer.
The first PiE was held in Bologna, Italy in October 2008, organized by Sequoia and ISMAR and had some 40 participants.
The second PiE was held in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France in November 2010, organized by Sequoia and LOV and had 82 participants. |

| Who should participate? |
Everybody interested and/or actively engaged in the measurement, monitoring and managing of particles (sediment, plankton, detritus) in oceans, rivers, lakes, streams and reservoirs: Researchers, students, environmental officials, government employees, monitoring agencies, consulting companies etc. would benefit from attending the meeting. |

| Why? |
- Invited speakers will present their work on particle size and sediment measurements / monitoring / management.
- Talks selected from submitted abstracts will elucidate how useful it is to have knowledge about particle size and concentration in various environments, how this knowledge is obtained, and how it is applied in a scientific, regulatory and management framework.
- Scientists, consultants, and government employees will get a chance to get together and inform each other about state of the art methods, ideas and approaches in science, monitoring and management.
- All extended abstracts will be included in the workshop program, which will be distributed to all participants electronically prior to the meeting.

| SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT |
Anybody who would like to give a talk should submit an extended abstract of maximum 3 pages (A4 or letter size, Times New Roman 12 pt, single line spacing, 1” (2.54 cm) margins throughout). Figures, references and tables do not count towards the 3 page limit. Use Word (.doc, .docx), Pages (.pages) or PDF format
All accepted abstracts will be included in the conference program/abstract book, which will be distributed to the particpants electronically before the meeting. There will be no printed abstract book. |
